Feb 27, 1922- Two Maryland women register to vote in their state, but Judge Oscar Leser sued to have their names taken off the voting polls. This was on the grounds that Maryland had not ratified the amendment yet so therefore was not under its influence. Also, he claimed that an amendment that allowed that many people the right to vote and was done so possibly incorrectly did not belong in the Constitution at all. When taken to the Supreme Court, the argument was denied since the same amount of people were helped when African American people were allowed to vote. Also, it had been ratified by enough states that the few who had not ratified it yet were still under its jurisdiction. By trying to get rid of the 19th amendment, Leser actually made sure that the amendment was followed
